Our Story

How it all started...

October 31, 1905 at 3:00 p.m. - Chester Baptist Church was organized in the Chester Presbyterian Church with 19 charter members.  It was started with gifts from children and a missionary circle. Dr. A. J. Hurt and his wife Maude (who lived in the hotel on Railroad Street, when they moved to Chester) wanted to start a Baptist Church.  They initiated the effort. Maude Hurt, along with her Baptist Women's Missionary group were vital to the organizational process.

In August of 1906 Chester Baptist Church was accepted into Middle District Baptist Association and Rev. Arthur A. Davidson was called as first pastor.

On April 3, 1908, Cornerstone laid for the first church building.  Our first church building was built on the land we still occupy today. God has continued to add to and bless our footprint in Chester on School Street off Harrowgate Road to this day.

Expanding the vision...

We love to serve our Chester, Virginia community!

Where we are headed...

With well over a century worth of presence in Chester, we still believe God has called us to be a light in the world from within our own community. While Chester has changed dramatically, and may continue to do so, our God and His Gospel have not.

Sunday mornings are a great start! Church is much more than attending worship gatherings on Sundays. Here at Chester Baptist Church, we seek to personally spend time with God as a part of our regular rhythms of life, and love and serve the people in our lives and the greater community daily!

We would love for you to join us as we know and follow Jesus together in the daily rhythms of our life together.

Be a part of our story...

Join us every Sunday as we gather to worship together at 10:30am.
